Unrealistic Requirements

2008年10月30日 Posted in: 隨心, 工作

Unless you are the biggest boss in office, you are somehow bounded by the rule of your boss or boss of the boss. Even if you are the biggest boss in office, you are still bounded by the company culture, rules from corporate governance, expectation of investors. No one have the real freedom in work place. So, don't use the boundage from boss as your way out. Successful people would not be successful if they could not handle the unrealistic requirements from bosses and get through the difficulties. Handling your boss and the unrealistic requests is part of your job duty. You won't be a member of the round table without getting through those hurdles.

Age Discrimination

2008年04月16日 Posted in: 隨心, 工作, 日記

Watch a news about age discrimination in the airlines of hong kong tonight. Somehow, airlines force local attendants to “retire” before 45 or 55, subject to the starting date of the contract. According to the spokeman of the airlines, revise of retirement age is a big issue to the companies as the arrangement would have impact to the promotion prospects.

The news does not bring me any surprise. Explanation from the spokeman is also found reasonable. If all the old guys keep stucking at the top levels, how can new comers getting into the management level? Also, if you are not as energetic as before, it is logical to leave the position and let someome else who is strong enought to take over your place. The whole picture is crystal clear to me. However, being a mid age man, I start understand why middle age lives are filling with uncertains. On one hand, you do not know how long you can keep being productive (I mean with 120% output daily). On the other hand, you do not know how long you can keep producing in the existing position. Can we keep productive with these kinds of uncertain in mind? I really don't know.

Oxygen in the Room

2008年04月09日 Posted in: 隨心, 家庭

My wife asked me not to stay in the son's room for too long. Her point is that I will use up all the oxygen in the room and the son will not be able to take enought oxygen for tommorow's examination. I appreciate her meticulously care to the son but I just can't agree with her point of view which is not scientifically logical.

Accountant and Investment

An accountant said, “The more your understand the accounting concepts or the more you analyse on the financial reports, the least willingness you are on investing.” The reason behind is that there are just too many unknowns or questions on the financial reports after analysis which take them away from the investing. Even people with great expertise are still getting backwards on investing, should we oridinary customers getting into the investment circle, i think. I like the conclusion being drawn by the holder of the show on tv - the return ratio will always proportion with the level of risk being involved in the investment, no matter you are talking about investing in stock market, securities or even other utilities.

Foreign Domestic Helper and Relationship

2007年10月02日 Posted in: 隨心, 生活

From my experience, if a helper stay in your home for more than 4 years, she would get into an unstable condition. I don't know the actual cause of such problem. It may be a side-effect from the aging DNA. Or it is the result of the long term battles between the employers, the respectable seniors, and the helpers. Human relationships can't last very long nowadays, especially the relationship between employers and employees (helpers), I think. Originally, I planned to use my helper for many many years. Indeed, she has been here for more than n years. But after tonight's battle, I think I would revise my original plan. This is the 2nd time I seriously consider whether to extend her contract in last 3 years.

Resigning Guy

2007年09月11日 Posted in: 工作, 隨心

The Stock market has ups and downs, either do our lives. Still remember the colleague, namely “the guy”, in my ex-working place. One day the guy was called to the senior manager's office. After around half an hour talk, the guy was resigned. Before he left office, he had said goodbye to most members of our team, except me.  Of course I know why he had that kind of reaction at that time; I was not friendly to him - at least in his mind. I had never talked with him during his entire 5 days work in the company. Honestly, although I did not social with him, I could say I was the only one who had never made bad comments behind him. Nearly all team members, except me, did say something bad about the guy in front of the manager or me. (I was working there for more than n years. When you have friends in a company, you know all the hidden stories). I know I should say some good words for him. Got to appologize that I didn't. It turns out he thought I was bad to him. Too bad, he had made a wrong judgement. I am neutual in this case. Hope he could get into a newer working place with a more mature mind. Live is always interesting but working place is not.
