Age Discrimination
2008年04月16日 Posted in: 隨心, 工作, 日記Watch a news about age discrimination in the airlines of hong kong tonight. Somehow, airlines force local attendants to “retire” before 45 or 55, subject to the starting date of the contract. According to the spokeman of the airlines, revise of retirement age is a big issue to the companies as the arrangement would have impact to the promotion prospects.
The news does not bring me any surprise. Explanation from the spokeman is also found reasonable. If all the old guys keep stucking at the top levels, how can new comers getting into the management level? Also, if you are not as energetic as before, it is logical to leave the position and let someome else who is strong enought to take over your place. The whole picture is crystal clear to me. However, being a mid age man, I start understand why middle age lives are filling with uncertains. On one hand, you do not know how long you can keep being productive (I mean with 120% output daily). On the other hand, you do not know how long you can keep producing in the existing position. Can we keep productive with these kinds of uncertain in mind? I really don't know.
